Segmentation, Targeting and Data Visualization of Smart Meter Data for Commercial Energy Consumers

Smart meters, such as this one installed by PG&E, allow utilities to monitor customers’ energy consumption remotely throughout the day.
This project sought to extend the VISDOM system, developed for utilities' residential customers as part of the Stanford Energy Behavior Initiative, to small and medium businesses. While electricity-use profiles for commercial customers are far more diverse than for homes, researchers identified some ways to use smart meter data to better segment and target businesses for demand response, pricing and energy efficiency programs
